  • Solar Cold Storage: Devanhaar Tech’s Role in Cutting Carbon Emissions for Indian Fruits and Vegetables
1 Views0 Comments

Devanhaar Technologies’ solar cold storage solutions are revolutionising fruit and vegetable preservation throughout India. Significant post-harvest losses occur in many rural areas due to inadequate refrigeration infrastructure and unstable electricity. These devices eliminate the need for diesel generators and erratic grid connections by using solar energy to power refrigeration all the way down to -4°C. In addition to increasing storage dependability, this change lowers carbon emissions in the agricultural cold chain, where conventional cooling techniques significantly increase greenhouse gas emissions.

India produces enormous amounts of fruits and vegetables annually, yet a large portion of them are wasted before they are consumed. A primary contributing factor is the lack of reliable cold storage on farms. Conventional systems frequently depend on diesel-based power, which raises prices and pollutes the environment, or uneven grid electricity. Devanhaar Technologies provides off-grid, sustainable cold storage units that are entirely solar-powered to solve this problem.

Technology and Design Overview

on-site farm use to 500-2,000 tonnes for larger commercial installations. High-efficiency photovoltaic panels that capture India’s plentiful sunshine are the foundation of the systems, which generate 4Devanhaar’s solar cold storage units are available in capacities ranging from 50-250 tonnes for–7 kWh per square metre on average every day. The generated solar power directly powers powerful DC compressors housed in storage chambers made of thick polyurethane foam (PUF) panels for better insulation.

Backup systems powered by lithium-based batteries offer up to 10 days of autonomy to guarantee continuous cooling during overcast conditions. Because of this design, the units can operate completely off the grid, which is especially helpful in places like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar where daily power outages can last ten to fifteen hours.

The storage units keep temperatures and humidity levels between 0 and 10 degrees Celsius, which is ideal for vegetables like potatoes, onions, and tomatoes, as well as fruits like mangoes and apples. Shelf life can be increased by up to ten days by maintaining stable conditions, avoiding spoiling and giving farmers more freedom when selling their produce.

IoT-enabled monitoring further enhances performance by allowing remote tracking of temperature and humidity. This ensures efficient energy use and minimizes the risk of losses. Overall, Devanhaar’s solar cold storage systems offer a practical, environmentally responsible solution for strengthening India’s agricultural cold chain while cutting carbon emissions.
